About Don Wheaton
I have represented clients ranging from Fortune 100 companies in complex business litigation matters to defending indigent individuals from criminal charges. Having represented both Plaintiffs and Defendants gives me perspective of what cases require from both sides of the bar, and offers me an advantage in negotiating matters to resolution or trying cases to verdict when necessary.
I am a member of the first generation of my family to graduate college, and one of the few of that group to have a graduate degree. I have stayed pretty true to my roots, and enjoy working with “regular” folks, though I handle myself well in so-called “elite” company, too. I relate to my clients personally, and refuse to use legalese. It’s important for an attorney to be able to communicate with all of his different clients.
I am a tireless volunteer, giving time to Boy Scouts at many levels for the past 17 years; serving as a School Board member for 22 years; working with the St. Clair Shores Goodfellows for the last 12 years; and helping out at numerous school and community events. I’m a voracious reader, a passionate music fan, and I keep abreast of current events and politics.

What you can expect!
ProfessionalDuring the course of my more than 28 years of practice I have represented corporate clients ranging from one-person startups to companies on Fortune’s Top 25 list, but the bulk of my cases have involved regular people.
From the start, in our complimentary and no-obligation one-hour consultation, I will take the time to get to know you and your circumstances. I’ll do my best to explain in normal language the issues we identify and the potential consequences.
When you call, you’ll talk to me (or, if I’m not immediately available, my voice mail and I’ll personally return the call at my earliest opportunity).
Frequently Asked Questions
There are so many frequently asked questions that clients and potential clients ask me. Here are just three of the most common. The best answer I can give you to your question(s) is one that I speak to you about directly. So many questions have circumstances that can’t be captured easily with just a few words in text. Please call me, so that I can answer your questions with the proper response based on your circumstances.
Why should I have a lawyer?
Lawyers are trained legal professionals who can explain the laws to you; help you evaluate your options; negotiate or mediate conflicts with other people; prepare letters, court forms or other legal documents for you; and represent you in court. It’s almost always better to have a lawyer with you in court than it is to represent yourself.
Bankruptcy allows individuals or businesses (debtors) who owe others (creditors) more money than they’re able to pay to either work out a plan to repay the money over time or completely eliminate (discharge) most of the bills.
How Quickly Can I Get This Divorce Over?
Sixty days is the absolute minimum because Michigan has a mandatory waiting period of that length. As a practical matter, that time frame is seldom realistic. Divorce is a process – not an event. After having made the decision to pursue a divorce, it is natural to want the matter wrapped up promptly. It will not proceed quickly enough to suit you. It will simply take as long as is necessary for your spouse to accept the realities of divorce and focus upon resolving the issues that are part of the process.
This man gives credibility to all lawyers!
Don is very honest and upfront about everything. He is very detail oriented and asked questions that no one else thought about asking concerning my divorce case. He even called me back on a weekend! I have no trouble whatsoever recommending this gentleman no matter what your legal issue.Jon
Don Wheaton has been by far; the most thorough, focused and detailed oriented attorney that I can actually say, that I am proud to have had to the pleasure to have worked for me and my case.
Mr. Wheaton was referred to me after the unfortunate death of my attorney. My current lawsuit was already a 1 ½ year work in progress and seemed to be dragging out with no end in sight.Rodney
